football fans were already beginning to bundle up tonight after donning summer wear earlier today. friday night and the big story is the summer to late fall in the blink of an eye. let's get to meet yols cecily tynan at the big board. we have a change in the weather. >> we certainly do. this is a weather whiplash. a powerful cold front is moving through and bringing scattered showers to our region. another batch is moving through overnight. flooding rains in new england. the impact in our weather is the change in temperatures. ahead of it, we had five days in the 80s, including wednesday and thursday, record highs, 86 on wednesday, thursday, 81. now, temperatures are falling quickly. we hit 80 degrees earlier today. we have dropped 60 degrees or dropped 20 degrees down to 60. reading, 56.

in the course of one day. >> reporter: jim, students couldn't have been happier to return to class. more than 100,000 students were left in limbo after they couldn't hash out a last minute dial. tonight, suddenly the strike ended with bothsides making concessions. >> i didn't know how long the strike was going to be. i thought maybe another week or so. hearing the agreement finally achieved. i'm excited to go to class. >> reporter: on the campus tonight, a collective sigh of relief after a tentative deal was finally reached on day three of the state system's first walkout in 34 years. >> i feel better now that they have an agreement. >> i'm happy. i want to get back to learning. >> reporter: it disrupted classes at 14 units bringing the semester to a halt. hanging in the balance, financial aid and grades.

>> a deal where both sides got things they wanted. >> reporter: the governor helped them come to an agreement. few details are being released on it. in a statement, officials said, in part, among other things it will provide faculty with pay increases and allow the state system cost savings. details will be available upon final approval. withdrawal would have required temporary faculty to teach an extra class a semester. the deal would only last until 2018. do you think it will happen again? >> i hope not. this is the first time ever. i hope it's the last time. >> reporter: jim, students were understandably concerned about the impact it would have had on homecoming. if the strike hadn't ended in time, the band wouldn't have been able to perform. we are told as of now, everything will run as planned.

live in westchester, jeanette reyes, channel 6 "action news." jim? >> thank you. her name is bridgette kelly former deputy director, chief of staff for governor chris christie. today, she said, yes, christie did know about plans to close lanes leading to the george washington bridge a month before it happened. testifying at the trial, kelly said she told christie of the so-called traffic study that would shut down lanes and cause massive delays and he signed off on it. kelly is accused along with two other christie allies of shutting down the lane for payback to the mayor of ft. lee. chris christie denied knowing about it before or during the incident. pennsylvania was ground zero for the trump for president campaign today and tonight. dann cuellar is live in newtown bucks county where trump drew a big crowd. dann, it was interesting trump

race on monday night and i ask you to join us for that live debate from temple university starting at 7:00 right here on channel 6. the man known as the penny pack park rapist will spend decades behind bars. a judge sentenced him to 30 to 60 years in state prison. he was convicted of beating and raping three women in 2010 and 2011. investigators found him three years later in wisconsin when dna from a rape he committed there matched evidence here. collegeville took the first step toward a new era in science and research. the school broke ground on a $29 million innovation and discovery center. the 42,000 square foot facility will house classrooms and laboratories. it will merge science, entrepreneurship and policy to create jobs of the future. it was set to open in 2018.

the bill would impose economic sanctions on a still considered a so-called sanctuary city. philadelphia is one such city that grants sanctuary to undocumented residents. the bill increases racial profiling. an organization that helps people with hiv and aids marked a milestone today. action wellness, which used to be called action aids is marking 30 years of service. they give hiv testing, prevention programs. adam joseph was on hand to emcee the event tonight. tonight's event was held at pennsylvania academy of fine arts in center city. this parade of pumpkins showed off unique designs for a good cause. they were decorated and displayed by the third grade students at an elementary school
